Your Kindness Lives On – Leaving a Legacy to Protestant Aid

How does it work?

Leaving a gift to Protestant Aid in your Will should be relatively straightforward.

i. Contact your solicitor

We recommend speaking to a qualified solicitor who can advise you on how to prepare or update your Will. If you do not already have a solicitor, you can find an Irish solicitor through the Law Society of Ireland’s Find a Solicitor service. Law Society of Ireland – Find a Solicitor. When contacting a solicitor, you can simply say: “I would like to make a Will / update my existing Will and would like to discuss leaving a legacy to a registered Irish charity.” The Law Society allows you to search for solicitors by location and area of practice, including wills and probate.

ii. Tell your solicitor that you would like to leave a gift to Protestant Aid

Your solicitor will help you decide what type of legacy is appropriate for you and ensure that your wishes are properly recorded. You should give your solicitor our full legal name and address, together with our charity registration number, so that there is no uncertainty about which organisation you intend to benefit. Our details are as follows:

Full legal name: Protestant Aid

Address: 202A Merrion Road, Dublin 4, D04 R9W8

Registered Charity No: 20000912
Company Registration Number: 2870

iii. Keep your Will up to Date

If you already have a Will, you may not need to make a completely new one. Your solicitor can advise whether your existing Will can be amended or whether a new Will would be more appropriate.

iv. Let us know, if you wish

You do not have to tell us that you have included us in your Will. However, if you choose to let us know, we would be very grateful. It allows us to thank you personally and, if you wish, recognise your generosity during your lifetime.

What can I leave?

Your solicitor can advise, but there are several ways you can leave a gift in your Will, including:

(i) The whole of or a % share of your estate after other gifts/expenses have been discharged.

(ii) A fixed sum – You can leave a specific amount of money.

(iii) A particular asset – You may choose to leave a particular item or asset

(iv) You can leave what remains of your estate after your other wishes have been fulfilled.

Your solicitor can explain the different options and advise which is most appropriate for your circumstances.

Already have a Will?

You may be able to add a gift to Protestant Aid without changing the rest of your wishes. Speak to your solicitor about the most appropriate way of updating your Will.

Thank You –

Whatever you decide, thank you for considering a legacy to Protestant Aid which can make a lasting difference, helping us support people in need for generations to come.
